Upper eyelid surgery is a simple outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. It involves removing sagging upper eyelid skin, a narrow strip of muscle, and a small amount of fat.
Upper eyelid surgery brightens the eyes, opens them wider, and provides a younger appearance.
Lower eyelid surgery is a far more complex procedure and requires general anesthesia. Most people who undergo this surgery have bulging fat, baggy skin, sagging muscles, or loose tendons in this area — and often, it’s all of these issues together. Some patients have an additional issue, a tear trough deformity, that causes a dark circle close to the nose.

With lower eyelid surgery, most patients are back at work in 7-10 days and can resume full activity in three weeks. It can take two or three weeks for the swelling and bruising to completely resolve.
